Chile trip, Family Christmas and New Year's resolutions!

So we are back from our- Winter Vacation full of Sun! we have sooooo many pictures! will post them on our picture page, and tell lots of stories about this memorable trip on our family journal. So, we went to Chile and had a blast! Fantasilandia, dreamy fruit, family love for Christmas, amazing food, sun, seafood, beautiful gateaways, espectacular fireworks and family trips!

Mormon Church Continues to Provide Relief to Earthquake Victims in Chile

An airlift of tents, tarps, diapers and other supplies sent by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Chilean government arrived in Santiago from Miami on Monday, 15 March. The supplies had been specifically requested by the previous Chilean government and will provide relief in the wake of the 8.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Chile in February.

According to local Church leaders, government officials were particularly happy to see the tents and the other supplies needed so desperately in the affected areas.

The Church’s Chile area presidency, which directs the work of the Church throughout Chile, met with Rodrigo Hinzpeter, Chile’s new interior minister, and Cristobal Lira, the general coordinator of donations, to formally donate the shipment. The ministers expressed their gratitude for all the Church was doing to help the Chilean people. Local Church leaders are also continuing to coordinate the delivery of food, water and other supplies provided locally from bishops’ storehouses in Chile to affected areas, including the Juan Fernandez Islands, which were hit by a major tsunami. Several tons of relief supplies have already been provided by the Church from resources in country.

One stake (similar to a diocese) in Chile sent four tons of food, clothing and other supplies they provided on their own. The Relief Society in Chile has provided thousands of blankets and quilts to the needy. “Everyone is grateful for what local Church leaders are doing down there and how well the relief operation is running,” said Dennis Lifferth, managing director of Church Welfare Services. An estimated 2 million Chileans have been affected by the earthquake, with at least 500,000 homes sustaining considerable damage. Dozens of aftershocks continued to rattle the region over the weekend.

Seven Church members have been confirmed dead and one is missing from the aftermath of the original quake. Nearly 450 Church members are temporarily using 25 Church meetinghouses as living quarters.

Those wishing to donate to the Church Humanitarian Aid Fund can do so here. Resources from the Church Humanitarian Aid Fund make it possible for the Church to conduct humanitarian activities all over the world. One hundred percent of all contributions are used to help the needy.

EARTHQUAKE IN OUR BELOVED CHILE

We woke up after a phone call from Chile telling us that the whole family was safe after the 8.8 powerful chilean earthquake. All of our family was protected, and we are very grateful about that. We are still praying for those whose families sustained injuries or are otherwise afflicted. Chile was prepared structurally for earthquakes, but a quake of this magnitude still took its toll.
This Earthquake was the 5th most powerful one ever recorded. The worst quake ever recorded happened in 1960, in the same zone, with tsunami waves that covered Valdivia, and reached several locations in the Pacific from Chile to New Zealand. >>Click here for more information on the 1960<<
Because of this, we were worried for the Tsunami warnings issued to all South Pacific countries, Polynesia and Hawaii. We are o thankful to Heavenly Father that nothing happened. Its still hard to grasp the magnitude of the earthquake, and a tsunami would have been even worse.

New LDS Temple in Concepcion Chile!!

I cried!! just hearing from President Thomas S. Monson (President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints). He said Chile would have a new Temple. What a blessing for all the faithful saints in the South of my beloved Chile Lindo. I am so happy that my people have been worthy of another Temple. There have been many years of dreaming about another Temple in Chile. So many members had to travel days on a bus just so they can attend the Temple to renew their covenants with the Lord. There are so many that leave their houses, sometimes their children, many that sacrifice working days, time and money just to go to the Temple, the House of God. And not just in Chile but all over the world. It is such an example to me, and a witness to all nations that Temples are important and that they are Houses of Peace where the Spirit of God lives. Why would thousands and thousands of members of the Mormon Church make so many sacrifices? Is there where we covenant to be faithful to God and obey his commandments. Is there in the Temple where members of the church can perform ordinances for their families and be sealed (married) for time and all eternity. There are currently 130 Temples around world, 21 announced and under construction! - Ally

On another note: Can we just tell you how much we love General Conference?! Even though there are so many people that watch it, we always feel that they are talking specially to us, and that no matter what the subject is, there are so many principles that we can apply in our lives, that if we followed can make us better God fearing people.

Memoirs of an Amazing Summer, Part 1

Well, this summer brought us so many things. Some of them are lovely squashes from our lovely garden...we also had a great time with Mike's awesome B-day, also a sudden trip to DC, fun and stress in preparing and going to the stake's Girl's Camp (Ally is in charge of the Young Woman- girls from 12 to 18- in our local LDS Church). Ally: camp was great, all i have left to say is that the Girls are WONDERFUL and Beautiful! that I love each one of them, and that I'm grateful for the great examples they are to me!
We were also able to hang out with Mike's siblings, and are looking forward to the upcoming Jensen Family Reunion this weekend. There are so many many things that we went through this summer, that we can't believe it's almost over. It was an amazing summer. One of our highlights was to go to the Manti Pageant with Marissa, Jeffrey, Tim & Jodie Jensen. We had so much fun. The day we were leaving we decided to stay longer than the rest and go to the Manti Temple for a session. We stayed in the Celestial Room for a long time. When we were about to go, a couple came to us and asked Mike if he could be one of the witnesses for their Temple Wedding, they were getting married for time and all eternity in a couple minutes, but had no one to share it with them. So we said yes!, and invited other people to join them as wedding guests. Nobody knew each other, we were all strangers, we were all from different places and backgrounds that happened to be there in the Temple at the right time. We don't know if we'll ever see any of those people again. But the experience we shared will be something that everyone will cherish forever. It made us think that no matter where we are, no matter where we come from, God loves us individually. He is there for all of us. And we were able to feel so much love for the couple that was getting married as well for the guests, even when we didn't know their names. The Temple, and all Temples are really wonderful places where you can feel closer to God, and participate of his love. That wedding also made us remember our own wedding and all the promises we made- to ourselves, to each other and to God. We are so grateful to know about God, about his teachings, and about his church that allows us to marry the one we love in a sacred place called a Temple, and there be sealed to our spouse for time and all eternity, not just until death doth us part, but we are married even after death, sealed to each other forever. We are glad we can be together for ever. :)

Estas semanas han sido intensas y maravillosas al mismo tiempo....
1.- Mike encontro el trabajo perfecto y se lo dieron!
2.- llegaron las notas de Mike.. que estan excelentes! esa fue una gran bendicion! Ya le queda menos de un anio para graduarse y ser abogado!
3.- Ale en cama y antibioticos con una infeccion al rinon... (ya mejor)
4.- Finalmente empezamos nuestro Jardin! plantamos differentes tipos de zapallos, frutillas (fresas), pimentones! y el fin de semana plantaremos tomates, pepinos y cilantro!
5.- 4 dias en la conferencia de la Juventud de la Estaca
6.-Planear el Campamento de las Mujeres Jovenes... y las poleras :)
7.-visitar, visitar, visitar...
8.-Planear un fin de semana a Manti, para ver la obra de teatro que hacen cada anio en los jardines del Templo.
9.-Planear la ida al templo de Salt Lake para hacer bautismos con las MJovenes. Los baustismos son tan importantes! Estos bautismos se hacen por familiares que ya han fallecido, y que no escucharon el evangelio, o no tuvieron la oportunidad de bautizarse en esta vida. Si uno se pone a pensar, seria injusto que la gente buena que murio sin bautizarse o conocer de Cristo en esta vida no tenga la oportunidad de hacerlo. Pero las personas que ya han muerto no tienen un cuerpo para ser bautizados... entonces sus familias se bautizan por ellos, y ellos aceptan o no el bautismo que se ha hecho. (1 Corintios 15)

Here goes our first post!

We came up with the blog idea after being told over and over that we needed a blog... so we have a blog! Well, this is also one of Ally's projects for Personal Progress (she's doing it again as YW Pres). Our goal is to write once a week, so we can work on our journal-keeping habits through this Family record, and share our experiences with those we love.

Aqui viene nustra Primera entrada!

Decidimos tener un blog despues de que muchos de nuestros amigos nos decian que teniamos que tener un blog... asi que aqui esta! Bueno, este blog tambien es uno de mis Projectos para mi Progreso Personal (lo estoy haciendo denuevo como Pdta. de las Mujeres Jovenes). Nuestra meta es de escribir una vez por semana paradesarrollar el habito de mantener un diario de vida familiar, y poder compartir esto con las personas que tanto queremos.

Estaremos writing en Spanglish lo much that we podamos :)
